POEMS
MEN STILL LIKE THE SMELL
OF FRESH, CLEAN CLOTHES

My dead parents drive by our house.
They see their youngest child, now
a gray-haired man with an aching toe,
mowing the lawn. “He still doesn’t do
a very careful job,” my mother notes.
“Let it go,” my father grumbles, more
impressed by my young, second wife
hanging out a washing of clothes.
